Meet Our Pastor

Born in the bustling heart of Brooklyn, New York, Rev. Evelyn Romero embarked on a journey of faith and service that would take her from the vibrant streets of her hometown to the serene shores of Puerto Rico and back again. In 1979, she traded the concrete jungle for the island paradise of Vieques, where she discovered a deeper connection to herself and her community.

Returning to the mainland in 1988, Romero dedicated herself to serving others as a Social Worker in Reading, Pennsylvania. This commitment to service would continue to shape her life, leading her to pursue a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in 2015.

Her journey of faith blossomed alongside her academic pursuits. Romero served as Associate Pastor at Middletown UMC in Middletown, Maryland, for three years, building upon her decade-long ministry at Hughes-El Buen Samaritano UMC in Wheaton, Maryland. Today, she serves as an Elder for the Baltimore-Washington Conference, a testament to her dedication to the church and its mission.

For Rev. Romero, the church is not just a building, but a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. She envisions a church that embraces all people with radical and inclusive grace, calling every follower of Jesus to a life of inner holiness, compassionate service, and unwavering commitment to justice rooted in the gospel.

Beyond her ministry, Romero cherishes the simple joys of family. As the proud mother of two adult children, Eduardo and Emilio, she finds immense joy in her role as grandmother to her three precious grandchildren. Their laughter and love bring a unique warmth to her life, reminding her of the enduring power of family and the importance of cherishing every moment.
